MECHANISM OF ACTION:
Chlorpheniramine has antihistaminic effect. This is due to blocking of histamine action by competitive antagonism.
They antagonize the stimulant action of uterus and blood vessel and inhibit histamine augmented salivary secretion.
PHARMACOKINETICS:
Action is 15-30 min reaches the peak by 1 hr and lasts for 3-6 hrs. The compounds are metabolized in liver by hydroxylation and glucuronide conjugation and degradation products are eliminated in urine.
ADVERSE EFFECTS:
Sedation, fatigue, lassitude, tinnitus, diplopia and euphoria.
USES:
Allergic disorders.
